In 90s Bulgaria, Ostava was formed – in Gabrovo to be precise. Consequently influencing generations of music in the Bulgarian alternative music scene. The Bulgarian alternative scene was basically non-existant before this, they paved a way for all musicians after. Their late 80s post-punk wave sound fused with textures from influential bands such as Oasis and Blur combine to create something special.
Their first LP ‘Sunflower Fields’ won Best Song Award of the Bulgarian National Radio in 1994. Following from this, their acoustic anthem ‘We Are Free’ also won the award in 1996. They launched to the top of the charts after signing with Riva Sound Records in the late 90s. They released the song ‘Would You Come With Me’ inspired by The Smiths and it was incredibly well-received.
The single ‘Chocolate’ (2004) reached number 1 in the Bulgarian Top 100 Charts and stayed their for 7 weeks in a row. Their third studio album ‘Mono’ released in 2005 where soon after they played in Berlin’s famous venue ‘Magnet’. Local promoters Karerra Klub organised this, who had previously worked with The Kaiser Chiefs, The Libertines and The Killers too. The album also won ‘Best Rock/Alternative album’ at the MM TV Awards (Bulgarian music tv channel) in 2005.
More recently, they return with the brand new album ‘Кислород’.
